Big Sur Day 3

We had a wonderful day in Monterey.  We left early in the morning for the 1 hour beautiful drive up the coast.  We arrived in Monterey and got on our bikes to take the Monterey Coastal trail system.  It was a chilly ride as it was only 8:30 in the morning and probably in the low 50's but it was gorgeous!  We did a ride up to Lovers point park.  On the way we saw Sea lions on the rocks just hanging out.  At the park, we saw squirrels all over the green grass with the beach below that the girls had to visit.  After that we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  We met up with Tammy, Collin and Brandon there.  Tammy was our tour guide for the rest of the day as she has spent a lot of time in Monterey when Greg would do his diving trips down there.  The aquarium was great and the kids had a fun time seeing the jellyfish and touching the rays and other sea creatures.  The aquarium is right on the ocean so you can go outside as well and look out at the wildlife in the sea. We viewed some sea otters and a lot of birds.  After the aquarium we had lunch at Bubba Gump restaurant, right on the water.  The food was delicious and fun as it had a Forrest Gump theme everywhere and the waitress asked a lot of trivia about the movie- which I loved since it is one of my favorite movies.  We had fun catching up with Tammy and Brandon and watching the littler cousins bond and have fun.  Collin immediately loved Megan and they held hands most of the day.  Collin is a free spirited hoot!  We were walking along the coastal trail after lunch and the army cadets came running next to us and he started running right next to them and encouraging them.  We next went down to San Carlos State Beach and let the kids play in the water while the adults sat in our chairs and froze1  I don't think it even broke 60 degrees that day but the kids didn't care...but for me, that chill stayed with me the entire rest of the day and night.  I went to bed with my teeth chattering!  After the beach we went walking along Fisherman's wharf and visited some shops and saw some sea lions in the water.  Then we all walked back to our car and said our goodbyes.  It was great to see Tammy and the boys and it was so nice of them to drive that far distance to spend the day with us...it was a lot of fun.  Tim wanted to give Collin a hug goodbye and Collin folded his arms and said "no way!"  Tim has a way of scaring his nieces and nephews :)  We had nice drive home and it was straight to bed.  Monterey is a beautiful town...I just finished reading Cannery Row by John Steinbeck and it was fun to imagine all of the history behind the town and the stories of the people who have lived there.  It was a great day!
